NJ Local Shelters and Recues

When circumstances in your life demand change we recognize the emotional hardship you are forced to deal with and we are here to help.

As many bird owners do not intend to let go of a dear companioned pet bird you care for your companion bird and would like to give him/her the best you can. Most owners who struggle are comforted by knowing where their bird is going and are fearful never to see their bird again. After all, most people who must give up a companion bird have lived with their bird for many years and letting go isn’t always easy.

We are here to help.

  • We offer alternatives to separating your companion bird from you.
  • We offer visitations in many cases and whenever possible and agreeable.
  • We offer the option of adopting your bird to a new family who has been prescreened and approved for a adopting a bird. Thus, match the most suitable home for your bird.
  • We offer your bird a long term or permanency with us.
  • We offer re-adopting the bird to you should your situation change whining a short period of time and we find the bird not to have been neglected or abused while in your care.
  • We will oblige your request without being euthanized.

With so many unforeseen events such as short or long term illness, family members who find themselves left with their relative’s bird(s) after a passing, financial obligation and or a home foreclosure or a simple move where parrots will not be allowed can leave parrot owners in a quandary about their bird’s life and well being.

We offer all the above because we understand that in life change is inevitable.

Surely parrots experience a traumatic and difficult adjustment whenever homed to strangers. Any change' to a new home should be handled with caution and care, especially for the parrots that have lived alone with a family for years. That is why, unlike other Bird Rescue Groups and Sanctuaries, we encourage a leisurely change whenever possible to help minimize the stress and grief to the parrot as well as to the owner when parting ways is necessary and does not necessitate an emergency removal. Therefore, unless it is a must, the division from one human bond must be made in gradual steps rather than to uproot a treasured parrot from his well known life and home setting by allowing recognizable people to remain connected, as well as allowing them to keep their familiar cage and toys.

Because of the high emotional level parrots have they too can suffer from depression. There are just too many parrots suffering from a broken spirit. It is unfortunate that many people lack the understanding to be able to provide parrots with their much needed spiritual comfort.

Unlike people, parrots have no councilors to speak to, cannot take anti-depressants and all they are left with is themselves and their beautiful plumage which they attack. Certainly many people may oppose of this belief even if we all know that it is very comforting to a parrot to be held, caressed and spoken to. The tone alone that we use can make a huge difference in a parrot’s life.

Again, we are here to help.

Lastly, it is imperative for us not to so easily dismiss the fact that parrots, more than ever are neglected, abused and mistreated all over the world with minimal recognition in the public eye. Unfortunately some take very little care even when their bird dies and unlike a dog or cat, they will bury their bird in back yards or trashed in garbage with no regard and dignity for its life.

Please, if it’s a time for change due to unforeseen circumstances or if your bird deserves better than you are able to give it. Surrender your bird. We will accept your reason with no question and provide parrots with a life they so very much deserve.
