Angel Baby

A very sweet Umbrella Cockatoo, who had been neglected, confined to a cage and given improper grooming, was relinquished by a new owner who was unable to care for such a bird.  Angel Baby may take a long time to recover from the neglect.  He has recently shown a positive sign of cuddling in one's arm for a short period of time.  He is afraid and does not trust human touch. Angel Baby is now being trained with loving care and gentle techniques to regain the lost trust and to help him learn to interact with people. He suffers from an overgrowth of skin that may not recede back to normal.  The overgrowth was caused by his nails not being trimmed properly.  This prevents him from walking on flat surfaces or standing steadily on a perch, but he helps himself by holding on to the cage bars.

Clifford

A Scarlet Macaw; his age and sex are unknown. This is a very talkative and playful Macaw.
Clifford has had at least three homes.

He is adjusting to new people and his new environment.
He loves outdoors, fresh fruits and vegetables along with a pellet diet.

Clingie

This young 12 year old female Green Cheek Conure has had only one owner and due to stress caused by the arrival of an African Grey she was unable to handle life with the new companion.
Clingie has large fatty tissues on her buttocks that most likely were caused by a poor diet.
She may never regain good health. Presently on a pellet diet along with fruits and veggies, which she loves.

Clingie passed away on April 28, 2008

Dante

Dante will step up and may lightly nip as he tends to be frightened easily.
His age is unknown.
Dante loves to be outdoors due to 3 mile walks he took with his prior owner who due to an emergency situation has placed Dante in our care and hopes to be reunited soon.

Dark

A male Nanday Conure who is recuperating from a very traumatic experience. Dark lived in a closet with his mate “Lite” for over a year.
After they were rescued they were surrendered to the refuge for long term care.
Dark has shown much improvement in his temperament and his chest feathers are starting to grow back in.
He is on a strict pellet diet along with fruits and veggies.
He interacts with the other Conures.

Giorgio

This precious 8 year old Moluccan Cockatoo was entrusted to us for long term care when his original owner was no longer capable of caring for him. Giorgio is cuddly and very affectionate. He was brought up with total love and dedication.
Giorgio is adjusting to his new surroundings, people and a diet change.

Ivory

This most lovable and trained Umbrella Cockatoo.

Ivory is very much loved by his owners.
Due to family emergency
i Ivory has undergone quite a bit of stress and has been placed with us for long term care.
Provided his family situation changes Ivory will be rejoining his family within the year.

JT

JT stands for Joyful Tiel.
This precious, young unsexed Cockatiel is bright, playful and loves to fly.  He will step up and give kisses.

Jake

Jake is a miracle parrot.  This young 12 year old male Lesser Crested Cockatoo has lived a very stressful life. When we picked him up he did nothing but hiss, attack and bite ferociously. We found him in a cage in a basement living with Macaws and Cockatoos. He had no toys in his cage because we were told he destroyed them as quickly as he got them. We believe Jake was at the stress point of insanity. He had plucked himself all over and had no tail. His chest and most of his body were very sensitive and showed fresh plucked skin. His feathers were chewed to the core.  Testing negative to all diseases, surely the change in the environment, a strict pellet, fresh fruits and veggies diet, and lots of love and attention and today, Jake responds only to Paula (our founder). He loves to be caressed and kissed. He will call for Paula’s attention and will listen to commands. He has not bitten her for the last 3 months. Paula states that he is her miracle baby, she sang to him many times a day and he would just stare in awe until he finally started to respond. He has recently gained enough trust to step up and be taken away from his cage which he would previously cling to for dear life. Jake comes down from the cage and follows Paula into other rooms to be near her.

Jewels

Is a Lutino Cockatiel who is extremely beautiful and tamed.
She was surrendered for long term care because a cat scratched her in her eye and she has been blind in that eye ever since.
She gives kisses like a woodpecker and will sing on command.

Jordan

Our young 2+ year old White German Sheppard.
Jordan loved the birds. Most of them like him.
Jordan is unique, he plays catch a ball with Lance.
Jordan was adopted from a shelter at seven months old.
Jordam is not adoptable we are his parents.
Moore of Jordan can be seen in the Birds At Play page.

Kellie

A true sweetie.
This gorgeous Orange Winged Amazon is 25 years old and was relinquished for long term care along with Tommy, Pretty Girl, Missy and Coco.
Kellie was a breeder's bird who could no longer keep them.
Her mate died an uncommon death by strangulation on a birdie Hideout that was left in their cage.
Left alone and untamed, Kellie came to reside at the refuge.
In the last ten months she has adjusted well to people and to the other birds. She is very friendly and loves the companionship of humans.
She will step up and has learned to fly from arm to perch on command.

Lance

This precious Umbrella Cockatoo is one of Paula's personal birds.
Lance was adopted one year ago after the original owner passed away and he did not do too well with the adjustment to his new owners.
Lance was abused by children and restricted to the cage which was extremely stressful to him and since Lance is a potty trained bird.
He loves to dance and show off as most Umbrellas do.
He bows and says “Thank You”.

Lite

This female Nanday Conure who is also recuperating from a very traumatic experience.
She lived in a closet with her mate “Dark” for over a year.
After they were rescued they were entrusted to us for long term care. Lite has shown less improvement in her temperament than Dark.
Her feathers are all destroyed and may never re-grow.
She is on a strict pellet diet along with fruits and veggies. She interacts with other birds.

Mollie

This young year old girl is an African Grey is most people’s favorite bird.
Mollie is with us as a long term resident.

P

Peaches was his name until the owner had him DNA tested and found out that he was a boy; she then shortened his name to "P".
He was released for long term care after his owner had to seek emergency care due to one of his bites.

Paula has since adopted P. His old owner is very much a part of their lives.
She visits often and has been welcomed as one of our Board Members.

Picky

This precious little face belongs to a sweet Cockatiel named Picky.
He was tested and with all negative results it is believed he has developed a picking habit.
Picky often wears a small armor jacket made out of gauze to protect his back due to his habit.
Picky will remain in long term care at the refuge.

Romeo

Paula adopted this extremely tame 12 year old Lovebird from an owner who lost most of her animals in a fierce fire.
This little survivor has brought much joy to the old owner as well as to Paula and everyone at the refuge.
His best friends are the Cockatiels; he shares a cage with them and interacts with them at play.

Snuggles

Snuggles had lived under unhealthy conditions for a while and suffered much neglect.
Surprisingly, Snuggles has remained a sweet, lovable and tamed Mulaccon Cockatoo.
Snuggles loves to flap his wings, kiss and run off and play with foot toys.
Snuggles is rehabilitating quite well and has finally adjusted to a healthier diet.

TJ

TJ stands for Total Joy. He is Paula's first Cockatiel. She adopted TJ before beginning to open her home to unwanted birds.
He was her inspiration to take in another Cockatiel that had been in an apartment fire.
